Our prayer at Glen Mar is that every child will grow to be a faithful follower of Jesus Christ and continue to live out their faith long after they graduate from high school. Intergenerational relationships are key to helping our children develop a long-lasting faith. Kids are more likely to feel like a significant part of the church when adults and older youth in the congregation get to know them. As children grow, these adults and older youth become people who will teach them about God's unconditional love and acceptance, as well as people that they can go to with their big questions about faith.
There are many opportunities to be a part of Glen Mar's ministries to families with children:
Sunday School Teacher
Teachers are needed at 9:30 a.m. for preschool through elementary ages and at 11:00 a.m. for preschool and kindergarten. Teaching Sunday School requires a commitment of approximately 2 hours a week, two or three Sundays each month.
Sunday School Assistant
Sunday School assistants are needed to assist the 9:30 a.m. Sunday School teachers (preschool, kindergarten and elementary ages), the 11:00 a.m. preschool and kindergarten Sunday School teachers, and the 11:00 a.m. Children's Worship leaders. Sunday School assistants make a commitment one Sunday each month for approximately 2 hours.
Children's Worship Leader
A flexible commitment, adults and older youth are needed to help lead the weekly children’s worship experience during the 11:00 a.m. Sunday School hour.
Vacation Bible School Station Leader
Adults and older youth are needed to help lead stations (Bible Exploration, crafts, games, etc.) during the summer Vacation Bible School sessions. This requires a one-week commitment (Monday-Friday) of approximately 3 hours each morning.
Children's Worship Bags
Children’s Worship Bags are located at the rear of the Spirit Center and offer a variety of activities and faith-themed coloring pages for young children to complete during worship. Adults or older youth are needed to organize and restock the bags on a periodic basis. Schedule is flexible.
The Clerical Club meets Wednesday mornings to fill, sort, stack and prep Sunday School rooms.
Held each year on Palm Sunday. Adults and older youth are needed to set up and run activity booths during the event (crafts, face painting, games, etc.).
Held the Friday evening before Mother's Day. Adults and older youth are needed to help set up for the dinner or run the welcome table.
Walk to Bethlehem
Held the first weekend in December. Walk to Bethlehem offers a wide variety of opportunities for people of all ages, such as acting, singing, database entry, sewing, greeting, setting up and cleaning up. Find out more.
All adults and older youth who are working with children, youth or vulnerable adults are required to complete Safe Sanctuaries training. Find out more about Safe Sanctuaries.
