Safe Sanctuaries Training: Sun. Aug. 13, 11 a.m. - noon
Are you planning to serve during a Sunday morning class for children in preschool through high school? A complete and up-to-date Safe Sanctuaries training must be on file. Don’t leave it until the last minute; summer is a great time to take care of this very important requirement which includes a 30-minute Power Point and some paperwork.Learn more.
Free Summer Concert at Glen Mar: Aug. 17, 7:30 p.m.
Glen Mar's second summer concert features singers who will perform selected scenes from the opera Lucia di Lammermoor and showcase a mix of favorite arias and duets. Refreshments will be served during intermission. Childcare for preschool children will be provided. Learn more.
Summer Cherub Choir Rehearses and Sings in August
For kids ages 4/12 through first grade. Experience praising God through music, singing songs, playing instruments, stomping our feet and clapping our hands. Rehearse on Sunday, August 6, 13, & 20 from 10:45 - 11:15 in room 125 and sing at the beginning of the 11:00 worship service on August. 27. “No Strings” Summer Choir: Practice Aug. 24 & Perform Aug. 27
All who are interested in singing for worship can participate for 8:00 & 9:30 services on August 27. A one-hour (7:00 - 8:00 p.m.) rehearsal is scheduled on Thursday, August 24. No prior singing experience is required.
Acolyte Opening during the Summer
Serving as an Acolyte is a great way for children to serve during church. Bringing the Christ candle into our worship service is a very important moment and of course sets up the whole service. If your child is interested in being an acolyte this summer, sign up here.

Confirmation Orientation: Thu., Sep. 7 at 7 p.m. or Sun. Sep. 10 at 11 a.m.
Youth in 8th grade, along with older youth who have not yet been confirmed, are invited to take part in this year’s Confirmation Class. The class meets on Sunday mornings at 9:30 a.m. and runs from September to May. In addition to learning all about being a Christian and a United Methodist, youth experience different ways to serve, grow, and worship Christian community. Interested youth and their parents should attend an orientation session on Thursday, Sep. 7 at 7 p.m. or Sunday, Sep. 10 at 11 a.m. Contact Jen Rowell, jen.rowell@glenmarumc.org, for more information.
Join us for the Fall Sunday School Kick-Off: Sun., Sep. 10, 2017
Jump into fall as we kick off a new school year at Glen Mar. Sunday morning programs begin at 9:30 (all ages) and 11 a.m. (up through 5th grade), and families are invited to a “tailgate” style picnic at 5 p.m. 9:30 a.m. programs include Sprouts for children in kindergarten and younger, Pathfinders for kids in 1st through 5th grade, Bible in a Nutshell for 6th and 7th grade youth, Confirmation Class for 8th grade youth (starts Sept. 17 with a special pre-class session on Sept. 10), and Rooted for high school youth. At 11 a.m. children up through kindergarten can take part in Sprouts, while kids in 1st through 5th grade start in the Spirit Center with their families, then head downstairs for Kids’ Worship.

Come back Sunday evening for the Family Tailgate Picnic – food, games, a moon bounce, and more. Bring a side dish or dessert to share. In addition, there will be information sessions for parents of elementary age kids and middle and high school youth about plans for the year and how to get involved. Learn more.

Grassroots 'Immediate Needs' collected all year long
The Grassroots Crisis Intervention Center's Family Shelter and the Rt. 1 Day Resource Center (DRC) are always in need of essential items such as toiletries, nonperishable food, or new or slightly-used clothing and blankets. Look for the blue shopping lists with specific seasonal needs that are updated and available in The Gathering Place kiosk, Welcome Center, and near the collection bin on the lower level, or download the list here.
Grassroots Meals Ministry Needs Additional Volunteers
For many years, Glen Mar servants have provided meatloaves and milk for 40 residents the 4th Tuesday monthly. The number has now grown to 50 - 60 and additional help is needed. Donations of money, or Giant or BJ's gift cards are also needed and checks or gift cards can be left in the mail slot near the Café in an envelope labeled “Grassroots Meals”.

Printer Cartridge Recycling Benefits Children's Ministry
Printer cartridge recycling continues to generate hundreds of dollars of free products at Staples which benefit the Glen Mar's Children’s Ministry. Gift card sales Continue to Return about 5% of Sales
Proceeds go to the Mission Ministry Support Fund and many other ministries. Families have also earned over $50,000 in family accounts to helpoffset their mission trip costs. Thank you to all the families that have helped total gift card sales surpass $4 million. Stop by the gift card table between services to learn how this free money is generated (cards are sold at face value with no fees), or learn more here.
