Glen Mar Holds Successful Family 5K and 1-Mile Walk
Sixty-three 5K participants and 47 1-mile walkers negotiated the challenging, hilly course around the church the morning of Saturday, September 30, 2017.
There was a nip in the air for the first time this fall, the camaraderie was palpable, and the scenery was among the things that took participants breath away. Two previous winners of this 5K, Adam Wytko and Mark Eagles, finished first and second respectively with Antonia Camacho capturing third. Jeanne Thomas came in first place for the females. Despite its name, Disqualified was not disqualified and won the team trophy.
Participants were not only getting their day’s exercise, they were supporting the Howard County Food Bank. The event raised more than $7,000 and many bags of food to stock the food bank’s shelves. Participants brought food to the event, Glen Mar donated most of its fall church-wide food drive to the food bank, and Glen Mar’s Early Learning Center will collect food this fall.
