Glen Mar sponsors a variety of ongoing mission ministries by funding teams of volunteers and providing a Glen Mar coordinator. We also partner with other churches and non-profit organizations to serve the community together.

Summer Mission Trips

Glen Mar hosts a variety of mission trips each summer for adults and youth currently in 6th grade and older. In 2017, Glen Mar sent crews on week-long trips to West Virginia and Hurley, Virginia in Appalachia. We also had a week of urban ministry in nearby downtown Baltimore, meeting at Glen Mar in the morning and then returning to Glen Mar for an evening meal and fellowship at the end of each day. Visit our Mission Trips page for more details.

Trips vary each year, with past trips including travel to the following places:

  • Crisfield, MD for disaster recovery from Hurricane Sandy
  • Cherokee Nation in Western NC to do home repairs
  • Miracia, Haiti to continue construction of a new hospital
  • Slidell, LA for continued disaster recovery from Hurricane Katrina
  • Tuscaloosa, AL for tornado recovery
  • Jacksonville, FL for inner city outreach

Training is provided each spring for all participants, and all participants aged 18 or older must also be Safe Sanctuaries certified.

Other Mission Trips

Most years, we also host a mission trip or two during the rest of the year, often returning to places we've traveled to before. This year, we returned to West Virginia in the fall to continue help with flood recovery.

Local Outreach & Urban Ministries

Here in Howard County, Maryland, Glen Mar is involved in several year-round outreach ministries through involvement with Grassroots Crisis Intervention Center, Bridges for Housing Stability, Relay for Life, and PATH (People Acting Together in Howard). Home-grown ministries such as Wish Upon a Star (Christmas gift ministry), and food collections for local food pantries also serve the local community.

In nearby Baltimore, Maryland, Glen Mar is involved year round in several urban ministries including a partnership with Ames Memorial UMC, a college and career prep tutoring program, and a Habitat for Humanity crew who do home construction in downtown Baltimore. Occasionally we also team up with other non-profit organizations in the city for outreach events and activities.
