Glen Mar participates in a variety of local outreach ministries here in Howard County. Most of these opportunities allow whole families can participate and only require a few hours of your time. Check out the list below to see how you can get involved.

Bridges to Housing Stability (formerly Churches Concerned for the Homeless) consists of a transitional housing program, along with programs that focus on the prevention of family homelessness. It is located in Columbia, MD. View map.
Glen Mar supports Bridges to Housing Stability as a Community Partner through direct monetary contributions and by participating in the annual Chili Cook-Off. In addition, individuals from Glen Mar serve on the Board and provide volunteer support.
Bridges is always in need of volunteer support to help maintain Bridges housing units, move families in or out of the program, coordinate special events, or assist in the office.
Organizations served thus far include:
- The Eva Johnson Foundation (EJF): a non-profit foundation that assists the residents of Hilltop and Ellicott Terrace in Ellicott City by providing food during emergency situations.
- Christian Services of Howard County: a non-profit 501(c) 3 all volunteer organization that helps people in need in Howard County. They operate a food pantry and a thrift shop in Ellicott City.
- Ames Memorial United Methodist Church's food pantry and soup kitchen in Baltimore city, available to residents by referral from Department of Social Services (DSS).
- Hurley Community Development, a non-profit that operates a monthly food distribution program in Hurley, VA, site of our annual youth mission trips
- Howard County Food Bank, operated by the Howard County Community Action Council (CAC).

Grassroots Crisis Intervention Center is Howard County's homeless shelter and 24-hour crisis intervention center. Glen Mar provides direct monetary contributions to Grassroots, and provides a coordinator and support to volunteers for several ministries involving Grassroots. These include the Cold Weather Shelter, the Grassroots Donations Ministry, Meals for Grassroots Ministry, the Rt. 1 Day Center Ministry, and the annual Glen Mar Golf Tournament and Silent Auction. The Thrift Shop, now run by Salvation Army, has a long history of helping people in need in Howard County by ministering to them in Christ's name. Donations of lightly used clothing, furniture, appliances and toys are accepted and sold in its Thrift Shop at a nominal charge. The money is used to assist low income persons/families with loans or grants. A food pantry is open during store hours.

Donations are accepted on Tuesdays, Thursdays and 2nd and 4th Saturdays, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Shop phone number: 410.465.1060. Glen Mar provides volunteers to work in the Thrift Shop. Volunteers sort donations, price items, run items to the sales floor, etc. Youth must sign up in advance by contacting our liaison, Beth Kagey at 410.740.8129. Adult volunteers can show up at the front entrance between 10:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. and tell the cashier you are there to work. You will be directed to the back to see what help is needed. There will be a short on-the-job training.
Volunteers are also needed to make furniture deliveries on the second Saturday of the month.
In addition to providing volunteers, Glen Mar supports the ministry through direct monetary contributions, our Wish Upon a Star Christmas gift drive, and collections of donations for frozen chickens for the food pantry.
