Advent Communion Service

Many of us are familiar with Lent as a time for spiritual discipline, when we give up something that has a hold on us (potato chips, chocolate, gossip) or take up something to help us grow closer to God (daily scripture reading, an extra prayer time). But Advent, the weeks before Christmas, is also a traditional time for this practice. This Advent we are invited to take up regular Communion as our spiritual discipline. On the first Sunday of the month we will celebrate the Lord’s Supper as usual at our regular worship services, but on the second, third, and fourth Sundays, we will offer a special, Communion – only service at 8:30 am in the chapel. It will be a simple service – no hymns, no offering, no sermon (score!) – just the Eucharist. This early morning time is intended to supplement, not replace, our regular weekly worship service. So come to the chapel early, feast at the Lord’s Table, and stay for plain ol’ “church.”
