Dear Glen Mar friends,
I'm excited to start a new sermon series this week called Covenant: Made for Relationship. You do not have to be in one of our Covenant small groups to get a LOT out of this series. Come this week to worship a God who not only created all that is, but who desires to be in relationship with all of creation, and with each one of us, loved, gifted and made for a purpose.
Next week, I'll be attending the Leadership Days at Church of the Resurrection in Leawood, Kansas. Many of you know this is the church that Rev. Adam Hamilton leads, and this gathering promises to offer the chance to get an update on the movement of the larger UMC, and ways we can be more effective in making disciples of Jesus here in our own part of the body of Christ in Maryland.
Also mark your calendars for Saturday Oct. 5, 10 am, as we will have a special meeting at the church called "Ministry Connections." This group is for church leaders of all descriptions and folks who would just like to hear where Glen Mar is now, any news and learnings from Leadership Days, and some of our congregational vision for 2020-21. Leadership Board and staff have really discerned that this is a season to re-engage with our local neighborhood, and to be intentional about extending the radical hospitality of Jesus to people God sends to us, and to give that same hospitality as we are sent into the community so that we might grow as disciples of Jesus and God would use us to make more disciples of Jesus.
If you were at Glen Mar when Eric and I were members here, you know that Glen Mar went to the trouble of building this facility and moving to this "new place" on New Cut road because we knew that God was calling us to be a bigger blessing to our neighbors, and a bigger family in Christ. We are a lighthouse on the hill for everyone that God loves (so that means everyone!). I hope you'll join us for Ministry Connections, and because if we are to fulfill the vision God is giving us, we need YOUR help.
See you in Church,
PS Our yearly "church conference" is Saturday, Sept. 28, at St. Paul's UMC in Sykesville. Worship is at 2:45 and our meeting starts at 3:30. This is a yearly meeting with our District Superintendent to report on how Glen Mar is doing, vote on salaries for your pastors, hear about candidates for ordained ministry, approve slates of committee members for next year and other business. You are invited and all members are eligible to vote.
