Join us for the 11th Annual MLK Jr. Day of Service on Monday, January 20, 2025!
As we reflect on the powerful words of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, ‘What are you doing for others?’” We invite you to join us in answering that question through action. Be part of the 11th Annual MLK Jr. Day of Service—a day dedicated to honoring Dr. King’s legacy through acts of kindness, service, and unity.
Why attend? Hosted by Glen Mar Church in collaboration with Ames Memorial UMC and St John Baptist Church, this event is a celebration of community spirit, inclusivity, and collective impact. It is a chance for people of all ages—grandparents, parents, young adults, and children—to come together for a meaningful day of service. Whether you are earning service hours or simply looking for a way to give back, there is a role for everyone.
What to expect – This year’s on-site activities range from hands-on projects like:
packaging meals
making no-sew fleece hats and blankets
decorating cookies
creating inspirational artwork
knitting and crocheting for others
writing letters of encouragement
Barbie Doll restoration
assembling fishing kits
collecting non-perishable food and gently used clothing.
If enough people pre-register, off-site activities could include:
making bunk beds at Sleep in Heavenly Peace
painting at Day Resource Center
cleaning and organizing at Home of Our Own
volunteering at Helping Up Mission and Manna House
Every project you participate in helps make our community stronger, more compassionate, and more united—just as Dr. King envisioned.
