Glen Mar sponsors a variety of ongoing mission ministries by funding teams of volunteers and providing a Glen Mar coordinator. We also partner with other churches and non-profit organizations to serve the community together.

Local Outreach & Urban Ministries

Here in Howard County, Maryland, Glen Mar is involved in several year-round outreach ministries through involvement with Grassroots Crisis Intervention Center, Bridges for Housing Stability, Relay for Life, PATH (People Acting Together in Howard), Help End Homelessness in Howard County (HEHHC), and Sleep in Heavenly Peace (SHP). Home-grown ministries such as Wish Upon a Star (Christmas gift ministry), and food collections for local food pantries also serve the local community.

In nearby Baltimore, Maryland, Glen Mar is involved year round in several urban ministries including a partnership with Ames Memorial UMC, a college and career prep tutoring program, a Habitat for Humanity crew who do home construction in downtown Baltimore, and a team who serve breakfast at Manna House Soup Kitchen. Occasionally we also team up with other non-profit organizations in the city for outreach events and activities.

At our annual Day of Service, held at Glen Mar Church on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, volunteers engage in a wide variety of service projects benefitting the local community as well as international charitable projects such as Operation Christmas Child (OCC). We also pack shoeboxes and work at the OCC regional processing center in the Fall.

Visit our Local Outreach, Urban Mission, and Day of Service pages for more details and information how you can become involved.

Summer Mission Trips

Glen Mar typically provides several mission trip opportunities each summer for adults and youth currently in 6th grade and older. Training is provided each spring for all participants, and all participants aged 18 or older must also be Safe Sanctuaries certified. Participant cost includes all housing, meals, materials and a T-shirt. Help with costs can be obtained through participating in the Glen Mar Green Team, applying for a scholarship, use of the Glen Mar Gift Card Program, and other fundraising efforts.

We also had a week of urban ministry in nearby downtown Baltimore, meeting at Glen Mar in the morning and then returning to Glen Mar for an evening meal and fellowship at the end of each day.
