What is Safe Sanctuaries?

Safe Sanctuaries* is one of the tools that Glen Mar uses to ensure the safety of children, youth and vulnerable adults entrusted to our care.

Anyone who works with or comes into contact with children, youth or vulnerable adults in Glen Mar's ministry settings is required to complete Safe Sanctuaries training prior to participating. They are also asked to provide references and information for a background check. Adults and youth serving in ministry with children, youth or vulnerable adults are expected to uphold Glen Mar Church's Safe Sanctuaries policy.

Initial Safe Sanctuaries training must be done in person at Glen Mar, with a complete set of forms turned in: Laity Questionnaire, Child and Youth Worker Reference Form, and Background Investigation Consent Form, along with a signed Covenant for Child, Youth, and Vulnerable Adult Workers form (available only at the in-person training session).

Renewal policy: Every two years, training must be renewed. Two years after an in-person training, renewal can be completed online along with online submission of a new Laity Questionnaire. Two years after the online training, the next training must be completed in person, with submission of all required forms. To summarize, at minimum every 4 years of service result in face-to-face training with all new forms. New reference forms are not needed.
