Thanks to delicious takeout dinners supplied, prepared, and served by Outback Steakhouse restaurant at Long Gate Shopping Center, Glen Mar’s Angels for a Cure team raised $900 for the American Cancer Society. The Angels for a Cure team is affiliated with Relay For Life of Baltimore and Howard Counties.
The dinners were purchased at $25 each prior to the September 27 event either at Spotlight Ministries or online. Angels for a Cure made a profit because it bought the dinners at cost and sold them at a higher price to raise money for ACS.
The restaurant transported the already prepared dinners to Glen Mar where the steaks, chicken, and macaroni and cheese were kept warm over chafing dishes. Three Outback Steakhouse employees scooped the meal, which included Caesar salad, bread and butter, into the take-out boxes in the Spirit Center when purchasers arrived to pick them up between 5:30 and 7:00 p.m. Angels for a Cure team members were on hand to help at the event.
One woman bought 12 dinners for a large group that gathered at her home to honor a cancer patient. Some purchasers ate on picnic tables outside of Glen Mar.
“We are so grateful to Outback Steakhouse for giving us this opportunity to raise money for ACS and for doing such a superb job at this event,” said Angels for a Cure Team Captain Connie Ballenger. “Outback’s three employees were a joy to work with.”
This is the third time Angels for a Cure held an Outback Steakhouse fundraiser at Glen Mar. The two prior fundraisers were in 2018 and 2019. They sold meals to take home or eat onsite. The Relay For Life movement is dedicated to helping communities attack cancer through raising money for cancer research, around-the-clock support for cancer patients, and more. It also honors cancer survivors and caregivers.
Glen Mar’s Angels for a Cure team started 25 years ago. In addition to Connie, members of the team are Jeffrey Adams, David Costello, Diane Costello, Lois Hildebrand, Joy Piersall, Mary McKay, Cindy Nicodemus, and Jeanne Odermatt.
