Pastors Pondering – Holy Boldness: Doing and Giving

Pastor's Ponderings

Dear Glen Mar friends,

I’m thankful for the “Holy Boldness” of Glen Mar church as we seek to follow Jesus Christ! “Holy Boldness” looks like confirmation class. It looks like mission and serve trips to Hurley, Virginia and Baltimore. It looks like showing the love of Christ to all people at the Pride events in DC this weekend, or writing our legislators asking them to act in ways that reflect “doing justice, loving mercy and walking humbly with God.” It looks like building bunk beds for kids who don’t have a bed, or volunteering at the soup kitchen. Anyone can be bold in their faith for Jesus!

Thank you to the folks who have sent in estimates of giving/commitment cards – your responses to “God, how do you want to use me and that which you have given me?” Estimates of giving are an act of “Holy Boldness” too.

If you plan on giving to Glen Mar’s Mission and Ministry (Operating) fund, please fill out an estimate of giving card or let us know what you plan to give. It’s not written in stone—you can change it anytime, but it helps us put together a budget for next year. If you’re planning on giving, let us know. It is a gesture of faith and a way to support the mission and ministry of our church. We received about 60 of those commitments on Sunday morning, many more have come in, and I know there are more than 60 of you planning on giving!

In “Holy Boldness”, if God has been good to us, maybe it’s time to give God a raise through our giving.

If you haven’t embraced giving as part of your journey with God, I invite you to start with a few dollars a week—and make that official by letting us know through your estimate of giving/commitment card. If you are giving now, is God calling you to take the next faithful step by increasing a few percent? Are you ready to move up to the scriptural goal of tithing, 10 percent, as our family has done? We have gotten there gradually and have found it to be a blessing.  We give our regular offerings via electronic funds transfer, so that we never forget to give, and we find that giving itself is a blessing to us, never mind the blessing it is to those who will receive what we give.

Thank you for all the ways you are showing “Holy Boldness”! Together we can do anything God is calling us to do!

See you in Church,

Pastor Mandy
