Pastor’s Ponderings – Giving Tuesday and Christmas Tidings of Comfort and Joy

Pastor's Ponderings

Dear Glen Mar friends,

Giving Tuesday is today, Tuesday, December 3! I know folks are flooded with many opportunities to give to great organizations on this day, but I like to invite my friends and family to donate what they would have spent on my Christmas present to Glen Mar church because I believe in the amazing difference our ministries make in the neighborhood and beyond. If you would like to join me in inviting folks in your life to give in this way, simply share the link to our Giving Tuesday page on your social media or email list or share the Giving Tuesday event on the Glen Mar Facebook page.

Journey to Bethlehem is this weekend! Invite friends and neighbors to experience this amazing Christmas journey by registering on our webpage.

Tidings of Comfort and Joy:

On December 21, we’ll have a Longest Night Service at 7 pm in the Chapel. This beautiful service of candlelight, Communion, and prayer is especially for people who are having a hard time this Christmas finding their joy.  If your world is feeling weary and in need of some comfort and peace, this service will be a blessing. Do you know someone who needs a service like this? Offer to join them for this sacred, lovely time of worship.

On December 22, we’ll have an Advent cantata at BOTH services—beautiful music, and uplifting Christmas worship–a great event to invite friends and family as well!

December 24 is Christmas Eve! We’ll have two Family Christmas Eve Services at 2:30 pm and 4:00 pm (also livestreamed) with special music, Scripture and a funny and meaningful nativity play. A perfect way for families to enjoy a time of worship together, featuring angels, shepherds, wise men and “A Very Special Child.” At 7:00 pm (also livestreamed) and 9:00 pm, we’ll have our traditional Christmas Eve services with special music, carols, Christmas scripture, candle-lighting, powerful preaching and the best gift of all—Jesus. At 11:00 pm, we’ll have a more intimate Candlelight Communion Service which will conclude just after midnight so you can be among the first to wish folks a Merry Christmas!

On Christmas morning, at 10:00 am, we’ll have a casual service of carols and Christmas joy! Come as you are, bring your favorite present if you want to, or a bell to ring.

Make your plans now to join us in person or online and bring friends and family!

See you in Church,

Pastor Mandy
