Pastor’s Ponderings – The Advent-ure Awaits!

Pastor's Ponderings

Dear Glen Mar friends,

Happy Thanksgiving to all, and traveling mercies to all who will be away! The Sayers family is staying put and giving thanks for all God’s blessings this year. Especially, as always, I give thanks for the blessing of being your pastor.

This Sunday, December 1, is the start of the season of Advent, a time of preparation for the coming of the Christ child on Christmas! As I mentioned on last Sunday, I’m issuing three invitations to help make our Advent and Christmas more meaningful and draw us closer to Christ.

1. Together, we are reading one chapter of the gospel of Luke per day, starting December 1. There are 24 chapters so we get to hear the whole story, and then experience the start of it on Christmas!

2. This Sunday is our regular Communion Sunday. Starting December 8, we will have weekly Communion in the Chapel at 8:30 am. A simple 30 minute service with prayer, the sacrament, and scripture. This is not a replacement to worship but a way to partake in Communion each week before our regular worship services.

3. Each day, I invite us to ask God, “God, show me where you are in this day.” If you have a hard thing to do, ask right before the hard thing, “God, show me where you are in this hard thing.” This will increase our awareness of God’s presence in every moment of our life (and our Christmas shopping) #gratitudepractice.

Also this Sunday, come dressed casually, as we hope all who can stay will lend a quick hand to help set up some Journey to Bethlehem scenes! Officially, we start at noon, but Lynne will start accepting help at 10:30 am. And, God and I will provide many pizzas for hungry workers. Youth can get service hours AND pizza!

See you in Church,

Pastor Mandy
