Pentecost Sunday
June 5, 2022
On Pentecost, we celebrate the birthday of the church. The flame of Pentecost is a symbol of the Holy Spirit. On the day of Pentecost, a mighty wind was heard and it filled the entire house. It looked like flames appeared above the heads of Jesus’ followers. They were unified in Spirit and began to speak in different languages and yet understood each other. At both the 9:30 am and 11:00 am service, people will pray The Lord’s Prayer in their native and/or learned language, feel free join in and pray in your native or learned language.
This Pentecost, aligns with the conclusion of our Mission Accepted series where we commit ourselves to being the church that praises God, grows as disciples, and serve the world through the Holy Spirit. We will celebrate the movement of the Holy Spirit at Glen Mar Church.
In honor of Pentecost celebration, we invite you to wear the color red to remind us of the flame of Pentecost. Or, as the Holy Spirit guides us to be the church, we are inviting you to wear the color orange in honor and memory of people affected by gun violence, including those killed in Texas. Whatever color you choose to wear, let us being unified in the Spirit.
Also, our Confirmands will take an important step in their faith journey; they will profess their faith and join the church. The Confirmation service is at 4 pm in the Spirit Center. Please come and support the Confirmands in this important step in their journey!
