This Just In

There’s always something happening at Glen Mar.

SPOTLIGHT MINISTRIES:

  • Wish Upon a Star (WUAS) still needs YOU! – About 50 items are still available for generous Glen Mar shoppers to purchase for Christmas gifts for children in Howard County and Baltimore City. Pick up a Star in the Gathering Place TODAY, or select a gift online. Please return all gifts unwrapped by Nov 30. If you prefer to give a monetary donation to buy gift cards for families’ holiday meals and for homeless families at Grassroots Homeless Shelter, and gift baskets for families in Guatemala, please give today (though donations are welcome at any time) Thank you for helping us make Christmas a happy time for many children and families! Questions? Email the Wish Upon A Star Team.
  • Why Serve in Children’s Ministry? Serving with kids provides both personal and spiritual growth! Kids are silly, ask lots of questions and love unconditionally. They look to us to learn from and when we serve, we are modeling what it means to be a disciple. You don’t have to have all the answers, just a willingness to grow and learn alongside them! Sign up to serve in the nursery or to help in the classroom on Sunday mornings. Contact Julie Metakes to get started.
  • Journey To Bethlehem is almost here! – Journey to Bethlehem is our opportunity to share the birth of Jesus with our community. Please invite those you know to attend this very special event! There is still help needed on each night; we also need as many folks as possible on Sunday, November 30 right after worship to do the outside set up. Many hands make light work!
OPPORTUNITIES TO SERVE:
  • Christmas Eve Services Servers Needed – Disciples are called to serve! Please sign up to help! There is also a paper sign-up in the Gathering Place!
  • It’s almost the Most Wonderful Time of the Year! Honor a loved one this Christmas and help beautify our Spirit Center by ordering a poinsettia! They are $22.50 each. Please order by December 7.
  • Guatemala Mission Trip – If you are interested in joining a team of Glen Mar folks going to serve at Steps of Hope Education Center in Santa Maria de Jesus in Guatemala April 14-21, 2026. Registration details coming soon! Please register by December 15.
  • Calling All Barbies! – Time to collect Barbies, Kens, Kellys, etc. for dressing and packaging on MLK Day of Service. We need many dolls—dressed or undressed—clothes, shoes, and accessories. During last year’s service day event we packaged 500+ dolls for the Salvation Army Thrift Shop in Ellicott City.
  • Join the Praise Service Tech Team – Be part of the magic that appears on the screen! Support needed for Sunday mornings and Wednesday evening rehearsals. No experience needed. Contact Max Mason.
  • Finding it difficult to be thankful? At times, life seems to present more challenges than can be handled. Stephen Ministers are here for confidential help. To learn more about Stephen Ministry, talk to one of the pastors or email the Stephen Ministry Team.
  • Communications Team Needs You! Help spread the word about what’s going on at Glen Mar! We meet on the 1st Tuesday evening of each month on Zoom! Our meetings are typically less than a half an hour! Contact The Communications Team to learn more!

Glen Mar’s Cantata Choir and Orchestra will present The Glory of Christmas by Lloyd Larson. A blend of familiar carols and original songs will bring the glory of Christmas to life. Narration and scripture woven into the music will provide an inspiring worship experience. This is the perfect opportunity to invite a friend!
  • The Longest Night – Sunday, December 21, 7:00 pm. There are times in our lives that seem like the darkest of winters. We know that suffering is part of the human condition, but death, illness, loss of relationships, and a complete lack of peace on earth can make us forget God’s steadfast faithfulness. If that speaks to your life this year, The Longest Night Service is a healing opportunity to pause and reflect. Join us!
  • Christmas Eve Services – Wednesday, December 24, 4:00 pm Family Service (in-person and livestreamed), 7:00 pm Traditional (in-person and livestreamed), 9:00 pm Traditional and 11:00 pm Communion.
YOUTH INFO/EVENTS:
  • Youth Group – TONIGHT! 5:30-7:00 pm, all 6th-12th grade youth are invited for recreation, dinner, and the Gospel According to X-Men! Great power, great responsibility, or just weird? What does it mean to be a believer in today’s world? Bring $5 for dinner.
  • Next Week – Sunday, November 30, 9:30 am. Fuse, Confirmation Class and Rooted, but NO Youth Group.
  • High School Retreat – All 9th-12th grade youth are encouraged to join us at the Ignite Retreat in Ocean City, MD, March 20-22, 2026. Join 2,000 other students for a weekend of great music, powerful speakers, and a chance to know—deeply and unshakably—that you belong.
