Meal Delivery: 4th Tuesday Each Month
Grassroots is the only general emergency shelter in Howard County. It serves families and single adult women at 6700 Freetown Road in Columbia, MD. Grassroots provides three meals daily for their shelter residents from their on-site commercial kitchen. They rely heavily on community support to accomplish this. Glen Mar volunteers have been supporting Grassroots and “Serving the World” on the 4th Tuesday of each month for over 15 years.
Volunteers provide meatloaf and milk for up to 70 residents staying at the shelter. Six volunteers purchase two Stouffer’s Family Sized Meatloaves each and one volunteer purchases five gallons of milk. We do not help with serving the meal.
Meatloaves and milk can be dropped off at Glen Mar on the Sunday before the delivery date. Meatloaves go in the freezer and milk in the refrigerator, and they should be marked “For Grassroots.”
Volunteers can sign up for one time, for every month, or anything in between. Questions? Contact Ministry Coordinator, Linda Hunt.
In addition to our monthly contribution, you might also consider providing a dinner separately as a great service project for a group or scout troop or as a family. Menu suggestions are available on Grassroots website. The link to the SignUp is on Grassroots’ page.
