Donate hygiene items, warm clothing, and shoes for migrants arriving by bus in Washington, D.C. The collection will run through December – drop off donations in the Gathering Place.
Glen Mar’s Social Justice Group is partnering with Capitol Hill UMC in Washington, D.C. to provide hygiene kits and other supplies to migrants who are sent by bus from Arizona and Texas. Capitol Hill UMC provides a free store and meals for migrants, and they hand out 50-100 hygiene kits each week.
Hygiene kits will be assembled at Glen Mar’s Day of Service in January, and you can help by donating items for the kits. You can also donate warm clothing and shoes for the migrants, who often arrive with only the clothes they are wearing and no shoes.
Items needed for hygiene kits:
- Toothpaste (travel size)
- Razor
- Deodorant
- Soap
- Shampoo (travel size)
- Lotion (travel size)
- Optional – hand sanitizer, nail clippers, tissue packs
Additional items (new or gently used):
- Athletic shoes – especially men sizes 6-10 and women sizes 5-9
- Jackets and coats
- Sweatshirts
- Backpacks
