Position Posting: Minister for Youth and Mission

Glen Mar United Methodist Church (Glen Mar) is currently seeking an energetic and passionate Minister for Youth & Mission (FT) to support, guide, and implement our Mission Ministry and our Youth Ministry.

Glen Mar’s Youth Ministry programs for grades 6-12 include fellowship, worship, growth in discipleship, service, mission, and outreach, taking into consideration the differing needs of middle-high and senior-high students. The Minister’s role will include overseeing, guiding, and implementing programs, recruiting, managing, and training volunteers, and relating to and discipling youth.

The Minister will also facilitate and support the church’s Mission Board, which coordinates and oversees the church’s mission trips, local mission, and mission activities. Glen Mar has a rich tradition of serving the community through mission work both locally and in other underserved areas (for example, Appalachia, Coastal NC, Baltimore inner city).

The Minister for Youth & Mission will report to the Lead Pastor of Glen Mar. The Minister’s responsibilities will include (but not be limited to):

  • Supporting, equipping, and overseeing Sunday Morning Youth Programs, Confirmation Class, and Youth Group, and other Youth Ministry programs, including leadership, administration, and execution as needed
  • Supporting, equipping, and overseeing mission activities, including leadership, administration, and execution as needed
  • Recruiting, training, and overseeing adult and youth volunteer leaders
  • Developing and managing program budgets
  • Effectively communicating ministry information to the church, leadership, and relevant populations
  • Building relationships with mission partners in the community
  • Planning, implementing, and/or leading the following programs:
    • Confirmation service (with Pastors)
    • Youth Sunday(s) (with Pastors)
    • Faith-based weekend retreats
    • Mission Sunday (with Pastors)
  • Being the staff Point of Contact for Journey to Bethlehem (family-oriented outreach event)

The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree, a minimum of 3 years’ experience working with youth and/or young adults in a large church or similar setting, or a comparable combination of education and experience. Though no formal training as a pastor or minster is required, the candidate should have a basic knowledge of scripture, the Methodist/Wesleyan tradition, and how to apply these concepts to life, and an interest to learn more. Some experience with Christian education curriculum and program design, planning and organization is ideal. The successful candidate will also have experience in training, management, direct supervision, recruiting youth and adult volunteer participants, and equipping others. The successful candidate will need knowledge of and ability to use social media and basic proficiency with computer skills, including word processing, email, web browsing, etc. Additionally, this individual will need to be resourceful, able to work collaboratively with a team, have excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, and be welcoming to all persons, showing and sharing the love of Christ to all.
