Spiritual Affective Disorder: “Let the Son-Shine In!”

Worship

January 15 – February 19, 2023

Feeling a little blah?  Or not just quite yourself?  During winter months, people often suffer with Seasonal Affective Disorder due to lack of sunlight that affects moods and the ability to cope effectively.  Did you know that the same can be true for our spirit due to lack of “Son-shine”?  Spiritual Affective Disorder can be a condition where we feel the absence of light throughout our lives.  It could be due to times of prolonged stress and uncertainty.  But, what happens when we let the “son-shine in” to our spirit especially in times of darkness, despair, stress, and grief?

During the six-week sermon study (January 15th – February 19th), we will discover the light of God’s love in our everyday life activities as they become spiritual practices that will deepen our experience of a meaningful life even in difficult times.

Spiritual Practices with Scripture Lessons:

  • Jan 15 – “Flip the Switch” – (prayer)
  • Jan 22 – “Playlist with Purpose” (music to soothe the soul)
  • Jan 29 – “Laugh Out Loud” (take time for comedy)
  • Feb 5 – “Make My Day” (kindness is contagious)
  • Feb 12 – “Enough” (fast from excess)
  • Feb 19 – “Arise and Shine” (be encouraged)

Throughout the six-week sermon study, you are invited to use the following guided journal to deepen your experience and faith to experience the light of God’s love.  While our sermon series is over the course of six weeks, the journal provides two additional weeks of journal prompts and activities to aid in your spiritual affectiveness. “Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord has risen upon you” — Isaiah 60:1
