On Saturday, November 12, 2022, Glen Mar Church hosted its second free community health fair. All were welcome for several health-related services and information. Our guests received a welcoming greeting at the door with a welcome and a smile; graciously shown were to find health services; and then received opportunities for multiple health related services. As they were leaving, they were offered free at home COVID testing kits; information about Christmas events at Glen Mar; and given a large ‘Have a blessed day’ greeting. Below were the health-related services and information.
- COVID bivalent booster shots by Howard County Health Department
- Annual flu shots by Howard County Health Department
- BMI & blood pressure checks by Howard County General Hospital
- Hearing and Vision screening by Lions Club
- At-home COVID testing kits from Howard County Health Department
- Health related Information from:
- HopeWorks (dating and domestic violence center)
- GRASSROOTS (behavioral health, crisis, and homeless services)
- Murgentcare (after hours in-home health care)
- Progressive Athletics (exercise and fitness)
Over 170 people received COVID bivalent booster and flu shots. Over a total of a hundred people received health screenings; hearing and vision screenings; and health related information. The health workers and Glen Mar volunteers received a free box lunch from Chef George and the Kitchen Crew ministry. The health workers also received a free T-shirt saying, ‘Glen Mar celebrates everyday heroes #servingtheworld’ as a thank you for serving the community to make it a resilient and healthy place for everyone. It was nice seeing so many families arriving together to receive health services and information. Since the health fair was at a convenient time and place, a couple of families covering three generations (e.g., grandparent, parent, and child) received their shots at the same time.
