Hey Glen Mar,

I used to watch more automobile racing, especially NASCAR, but I have dabbled in Formula One as well. Either way, I’ve always found it remarkable how racecar drivers are able to remember exactly who wrecked them and when, even years later! They know who they need to pay back, and when the opportunity comes, they will know when it’s time to settle the score.

There’s an old saying: “Don’t get mad. Get even.”

I think there’s something very human about that, and it’s something that we can unfortunately relate to all too well.

We keep score, too.

We remember who hurt us, what they did, and what they owe us still. Sometimes we carry those debts for years, holding onto that bitterness that can be like poison to our souls.

But Jesus calls us to another way.

This Sunday is “Kickoff Sunday,” which means that Sunday School, music programs, and Youth Group are all back in session for the Fall! Specifically, though, this Sunday morning in worship, we’re going to talk about forgiveness and what it means to stop keeping score as we launch into our next series, “Another Way: The Countercultural Path of Jesus.” We can choose to live a different way because we are people who have been forgiven, and that changes how we live with one another.
