This Just In

There’s always something happening at Glen Mar.

SPOTLIGHT MINISTRIES:
  • Backpacks and School Supplies Needed! – Help students served by Glen Mar’s partner church, Ames United Methodist Church in Baltimore, as well as students here in Howard County. The need is always greatest for high school age students. Please be on the lookout for this type of backpack or consider a financial donation if that is more convenient. School supplies like pencils, crayons, notebooks, etc. are also needed! If you would like to help with this mission, or have questions, please contact Pat Lee.
  • Pastor Chris’s Ghost Pepper Hot Wing Challenge – As mentioned in the most recent Messenger, if we can reach 70% of the $1.6M goal in pledged gifts by November 1, Pastor Chris will eat a ghost pepper hot wing! Let’s reach that goal to see the new guy sweat-and smile-all at once! How do I make a pledge you ask? Pledge cards are available in the Gathering Place Cafe or you can call the Church Office for assistance!
ACT NOW:
  • Family Music – August Family Worship is here! Contact Sophie if your family would like to provide music for worship between now and Sunday, August 24.
  • The Glen Mar ELC is hiring assistant teachers! Join in making a difference in the lives of young learners! Teaching Assistants are needed from 9:00 am-6:00 pm, and must be at least 16 years of age. Please email your resume to Shelby.
  • We Love Collegians! We are restarting our You’ve Got Mail ministry to send care packages to Glen Mar collegians and we need your help. We are asking for the school addresses of all college students, as well as volunteers to help create and mail care packages. We will also accept donations to help pay for items and mailing. Please contact Trisha Boswell to provide addresses, donations or to volunteer.
  • Good Trouble – Sign up for the Social Justice Mailing List to receive email notifications about local opportunities to stand up against injustice. Learn about protests, letter writing campaigns, vigils, educational gatherings, and more. Email Social Justice to join the list.
  • Those who serve as Stephen Ministers know they are never alone in their work of Christian Caregiving. God is our steadfast rock, and our fellow Stephen Ministers and Stephen Leaders are there to support us at all times. No one is ever expected to know all of the answers alone! Consider joining our next training class, beginning in September. For more information, please contact a pastor or email us at Stephen Ministry.
  • Join the Praise Band! – Do you play guitar? drums? keyboard? The Praise Band needs you! Rehearsals are Wednesday evenings at 7:00 pm. Contact Max for more information!
  • Serve Here @ Glen Mar! – Do you feel called to serve, but can’t commit to a large amount of time? Consider joining the 9:30 or 11:00 Welcome Teams! We are in constant need of welcome center hosts, greeters, ushers, communion servers, worship leaders and especially Coffee Team hosts! Signing up to serve just once a month would be an enormous help! Please contact the Pastor’s Assistant for ways to help out!
  • Help Plan the 2026 MLK Jr. Day of Service! We are looking for volunteers to help plan next year’s MLK Day of Service on Monday, January 19, 2026. If you were part of last year’s team or are interested in joining for the first time, we would like to have you! Please also let us know if you know someone else who should be invited to help plan this meaningful day of community service. Let’s honor Dr. King’s legacy together! To join or suggest a name, please contact Day of Service.
