SPOTLIGHT MINISTRIES:
  • Youth Group Kickoff & Parents Meeting! – Sunday, August 24. All 6th-12th grade youth and their parents are urged to join us from 5:00 to 7:30 pm in the Spirit Center for dinner, games and information about the upcoming youth fall activities! The church will provide burgers and drinks. Families are asked to bring a side dish or dessert to share.
  • Enjoy serving others and hanging out with others who serve? There is such joy in being in a community such as Stephen Ministry. Consider joining us in our next training class which begins in September. For more information, please contact a pastor or email Stephen’s Ministry.
  • Help Plan the 2026 MLK Jr. Day of Service! We are looking for volunteers to help plan next year’s MLK Day of Service on Monday, January 19, 2026. If you were part of last year’s team or are interested in joining for the first time, we would like to have you to help plan this meaningful day of community service. Let’s honor Dr. King’s legacy together! To join the team contact the Day of Service Team.

  • Grassroots Meals Ministry – Tuesday, August 26. Looking for a way to serve those in need in Howard County? Sign up today to purchase 2 meatloaves or 5 gallons of milk for the Grassroots Emergency Shelter. Meatloaf and milk can be dropped off in the Glen Mar kitchen. Please label. Sign up here. Questions?   • Tell others about your ministry! The Messenger articles are due Monday, September 15! Please submit any articles here.
  • Welcome the bishop and district superintendents at the District Superintendents Installation Service – Saturday, September 20 at 10:00 am in the Spirit Center with light refreshments to follow! Contact the Pastors’ Assistant if you are interested in helping provide a warm welcome by serving as an usher or greeter!
  • Save the Date! – Sunday, September 21. Fall Harvest Fundraiser Dinner from 5:00-6:30 pm in the Spirit Center with chef George Dohner.
  • Fall Mission Trips – October 14-24: There are opportunities to serve in Guatemala as we continue to grow our relationship with Steps of Hope and the people of Santa Maria de` Jesus. Our team plans to focus working with the children and assisting with earthquake recovery. October 5-11: We also plan to send a team back to Windsor, NC to work with Carolina Rebuilding Ministry. The focus will be on finalizing our previous bed build and home repairs. Please contact D.C. Veale for more information and costs for either trip.
  • Mark your calendars for the ninth annual Jewels for Hope – November 1 from 8:30 am to 2:00 pm. Donate your gently worn jewelry and scarves beginning September 9 through October 19. Drop-off containers are located in the Glen Mar Gathering Place, at Hope Works, and at the Columbia Yoga Center. If you have any questions, please contact the Jewels For Hope Team.
  • Mark your calendars for this year’s Journey to Bethlehem – Friday, December 5-Sunday, December 7.
UPCOMING EVENTS:
  • Grow Disciples Dinner – Thursday, August 28, 6:30 pm. God calls us to grow disciples! Join us for dinner to learn about growing Children’s Ministry here at Glen Mar! Sign up in the Gathering Place so that we know how much food to buy! Questions? Contact Julie.
  • Sunday School Kick Off – Sunday, September 7, 9:30 am. Sunday School begins the Sunday after Labor Day! Sprouts (Pre-K), Kids (Elementary), Fuse (6th-7th grade) Confirmation (8th+ grade), Rooted (High School) are invited to bring a friend with you and join us for time of fellowship, fun and of course, faith!
  • Gals In Faith Together (GIFT) Fall Kickoff and Ice Cream Social – Thursday, September 11, 7:00 pm. Ladies! Looking for a way to get connected and dig deeper at Glen Mar Church? We are a women’s Bible study group who meets weekly on Thursday nights. For more information email the GIFT Group or click here to register for the Fall Kickoff & Ice Cream Social!
  • Aaaand we’re back! Sunday, September 14, 8:30 am. The communion-only service has been on hiatus for a couple of months and will return on September 14. As before, it will happen on all but the first Sunday of the month, when communion is celebrated during the two full worship services. As before, this will be a brief communion-only service and is meant to augment, not replace, 9:30 or 11:00 worship.
  • Addy Deaton’s Memorial Service – Saturday, September 20, 10:00 am at Community UMC of Crofton. Per Addy’s wishes, please wear pink or bright colors.
  • All are welcome! Join us for the 2025 Annual Church Conference on Saturday, October 18 at Wesley Freedom UMC at 9:00 am. If you have any questions, please contact the church office!
YOUTH INFO/EVENTS:
  • Confirmation 2025-26 Information Meeting – Sunday, August 24 at 10:45 am in the Youth Lounge. Any rising 8th grade or older youth who has not yet been confirmed is eligible to be part of the 2025-26 youth confirmation class. There will be an information meeting for all potential youth and their parents. This is the best way to learn all of the dates, requirements and costs for the class.

  • Mark Your Calendars! Friday, October 17-19 for the Middle School Retreat!
MUSIC MINISTRY:
  • Music groups for adults, youth, and kids: For more information, visit our Glen Mar Music Ministry blog. Sundays: Children’s Choir at 10:45 am, Voices of Praise Youth Choir at 10:45 am, and Youth Bell Choir at 11:30 am.
  • No Strings Choir – Sunday, August 31, 9:30 am. Rehearsal on Thursday, August 28, 7:00 pm.
  • Experience Handbells – Sunday, Sept. 7, 10:45 am – Try out handbell ringing and see if it’s for you. Learn some basic ringing and even play a song. Open to youth (6th-12th grade) and adults with ability to read music.
