SPOTLIGHT MINISTRIES:

Disciple II: Into the Word, Into the World – This year, we will do Disciple 2 – Into the Word, Into the World. It’s a 32 week study (2 weeks shorter than Disciple 1) that focuses on Genesis-Exodus and Luke-Acts, scriptures that are foundational. All youth and adults are invited to join in, and it’s okay if you haven’t yet done Disciple 1. We hope to have both a morning and an evening class. See the folks at the Disciple table to talk more or reach out to Pastor Gayle.

Sunday School Kickoff – Sunday, September 7, 9:30 am. Located in the Kid’s Wing: Sprouts (Pre-K), Kids (Elementary) Located in the Youth Wing: Fuse (6th-7th grade), Confirmation (8th+ grade), Rooted (High School) All are invited to bring a friend with you and join us for time of fellowship, fun and of course, faith! Pastor Chris Needs Our Help! – Saturday, September 20 the bishop and many district superintendents will be joining us here at Glen Mar for the BWI District Superintendents Installation Service at 10:00 am. We need at least 2 more Glen Martians to serve from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm. Please contact Amy Barnes as soon as possible if you are available and willing to help make Glen Mar a welcoming place for our bishop and fellow district superintendents!

Italian Dinner Night – Join us for a delicious Italian dinner on Sunday, September 21 from 5:30 to 7:00 pm in the Spirit Center. Chef George Dohner will be preparing a fantastic meal as a fundraiser for a Glen Mar youth working on his Eagle Scout project, which will be installing a Gaga Ball pit at Glen Mar. Fall Mission Trips – October 14-24: There are opportunities to serve in Guatemala as we continue to grow our relationship with Steps of Hope and the people of Santa Maria de` Jesus. Our team plans to focus working with the children and assisting with earthquake recovery. October 5-11: We also plan to send a team back to Windsor, NC to work with Carolina Rebuilding Ministry. The focus will be on finalizing our previous bed build and home repairs. Please register for the NC trip here.

Mark your calendars for the ninth annual Jewels for Hope – November 1 from 8:30 am to 2:00 pm. Donate your gently worn jewelry and scarves beginning September 9 through October 19. Drop-off containers are located in the Glen Mar Gathering Place, at Hope Works, and at the Columbia Yoga Center. If you have any questions, please contact Hope Works.

Upcoming Sermon Series – Sunday, September 7-November 23. What Disciples Do. So often it seems that we hear more about what Christians are against and not what they are for. This fall, join us for an in-depth look at what disciples do.

Social Justice Group – Tuesday, September 9, 7:00 pm. This group educates itself on the many social justice issues to be addressed in our community and discern how to effectively engage and take action. All are welcome to attend this group.

Aaaand we’re back! Sunday, September 14, 8:30 am. The communion-only service has been on hiatus for a couple of months and will return on September 14. As before, it will happen on all but the first Sunday of the month, when communion is celebrated during the two full worship services. As before, this will be a brief communion-only service and is meant to augment, not replace, 9:30 or 11:00 worship.

Bishop Easterling visits the Districts – Monday, September 15, 6:00 pm at Deer Park UMC, 2205 Sykesville Rd, Westminster, MD 21157. This will be a time to meet with clergy and laity for sharing and communication. As our new structure takes effect and we begin new relationships in each of our new districts and across the area, this will be an important time of connection.

Confirmation 2025-26 – All 8th grade and older youth who have not yet been confirmed are urged to sign up for this year’s class. Classes begin next Sunday, September 7. Contact D.C. Veale for more information or register here.

Middle School Retreat – All 6th-8th grade youth are invited to join us for the best weekend of the Fall. Oct. 17-19 we will be heading to Camp Manidokan to build up your XP to grow deeper in faith while doing fun things in the mountains like Boss Battles, a giant zip line, campfires, and gaga ball. Register by October 3. The $220 registration fee covers everything you’ll need for the weekend plus a T-shirt. Register here.

Experience Handbells – Sunday, Sept. 7, 10:45 am – Try out handbell ringing and see if it’s for you. Learn some basic ringing and even play a song. Open to youth (6th-12th grade) and adults with ability to read music.

Join the Christmas Cantata Choir! Rehearsals begin Thursday, September 25 (weekly, 7:00-7:30 pm).
