There’s always something happening at Glen Mar.

SPOTLIGHT MINISTRIES:
  • Youth Group: Escape the Siege – TONIGHT! 5:30-7:30 pm. You are members of Rahab’s family in ancient Jericho, and the Israelites are coming! She’s left clues for how to stay safe during the siege, but will you solve them before the walls come tumblin’ down? Bring $5 for dinner.
  • Outback is Back – Enjoy dinners from Outback Steakhouse on Wednesday, October 29, 5:30-7:15 pm, at Glen Mar. Meals costing $25 each must be purchased by October 21. Dine-in and carry-out meals are available. The menu will include both sirloin steak and chicken, macaroni and cheese, Caesar salad, bread and butter. Purchase dinners at Gathering Place tables on October 12 or 19 from Glen Mar’s Angels for a Cure or online. Click Purchase Dinners. Proceeds benefit the American Cancer Society.
  • Journey To Bethlehem – December 5, 6, & 7, 5:00–8:00 pm. Sign up at online to help with preparation work prior to and after the event or to volunteer as Cast (people in costumes) or Crew (behind the scenes help) positions during the evenings of the production.

  • Jewels for Hope – Donate your gently worn jewelry and scarves through October 19. Drop off containers are in the Glen Mar Gathering Place, at Hope Works, at Miller’s Grant, and the Columbia Yoga Center. If you have any questions, contact Hope Works. Mark your calendars for the Jewels for Hope Sale on November 1 from 8:30 am to 2:00 pm. .
  • Interfaith Opportunity – Tuesday, October 21, 7:00-9:00 pm. From Thought to Action: Service to Humanity. A panel discussion on the perspective of Abrahamic religions about transforming love towards human beings into acts of service. Sponsored by MARTI (Maryland Turkish American Inhabitants). Pastor Gayle Annis-Forder will be the Christian on the panel, joined by Rabbi Amanda Weiss from Temple Isaiah and Mr. Fevzi Sarac, Executive Director of MARTI. All are invited to attend. Please RSVP.
  • First Fruits Farm Service Opportunity – Saturday, October 25, 1:30-3:30pm. Harvest and/or package produce for distribution to area food banks. Meet at the ELC Parking Lot at 12:00 pm; leave by 12:15pm to carpool or caravan together. (This time may need to be adjusted as we will be traveling on a Saturday afternoon rather than early in the morning.) Wear clothing that will get dirty and solid shoes. Bring a water bottle and gloves. We can go for ice cream following our afternoon work, if interested. Click here to register.
  • All Saints Day is Sunday, November 2. Submit photos and names of saints (family, friends, neighbors, community members) in your life who have passed from labor to reward over this past year. Please email photos and names by Sunday, October 19.
  • JTB needs fabric for guests to braid headbands in the marketplace. Cotton is great. Any color, plain or patterned. We need folks good with rotary cutters to cut fabric into strips across the grain. Strips should end up being about 44″ long & 1.5″ wide. Questions contact Adrienne.
  • CWS – Save the Date! Glen Mar will provide meals and serve dinner at the Grassroots Cold Weather Shelter from February 23–March 1, 2026 this coming season.
  • What Disciples Do – Disciples practice radical hospitality by serving on Sunday mornings! Contact the Pastors’ Assistant on how to help.
  • Need someone praying for you in a time of loss or stress? Our trainees in Stephen Ministry learned and practiced a critical skills in Christian Caregiving this week praying with and for others. Ask a pastor about Stephen Ministry or contact us.
  • CWS – Save the Date! We would like to thank everyone who contributed both financially and in service to the Cold Weather Shelter this past year. We wanted to make you aware that Glen Mar will provide meals and serve dinner at the Grassroots Cold Weather Shelter from February 23–March 1, 2026 this coming season.

  • Social Justice Meeting – Tuesday, October 14, 7:00 pm in-person and on Zoom. All are welcome to join us. We’ll watch and discuss Oprah’s interview with Joan Chittister, the author of “The Time is Now”. Email for the Zoom link.
  • Snack Pack Small Group – Tuesday, October 14, 7:00 pm in Room 122. Are you in your late 20s early 30s? Looking for a social group to get to know others here at Glen Mar? Contact Sean Danaher for more info.
  • GIFT (Gals in Faith Together) Group – Thursday, October 16, 7:00 pm. A Weekly Women’s Bible Study group! All welcome! Contact Mary Ellen for more info!
  • Brahms & More Recital – Friday, October 17, 7:00 pm. Glen Mar pianist Kelvin Ying and clarinetists Elle Crowhurst and Jenn Everhart present an evening of exciting chamber music featuring the monumental Brahms Clarinet Sonatas. Freewill monetary or food donations support the Maryland Food Bank. A reception with light refreshments will follow.
  • Glen Mar’s Church Conference – Saturday, October 18, 9:00 am at Wesley Freedom UMC in Eldersburg. All are invited!
  • Looking for fellow Gen X and Y folks? Monday, October 20, 7:00 pm. Join us for bible study on the 1st and 3rd Mondays of the month. Contact Jen Sellers.
  • Lunch Bunch – Tuesday, October 21, 11:30 am in the Lower Gathering Place. Lunch Bunch is a group of “seasoned citizens” who meet the third Tuesday of each month from September through June for fellowship, fun, and of course, lunch. This month is potluck! If you have any questions, contact us.
  • Alphabet Soup – Tuesday, October 21, 7:00 pm. Looking for a safe space where you can be yourself? Alphabet Soup is a reconciling community, celebrating diversity and inclusiveness, and welcoming and affirming ALL people. The group meets on the third Tuesday of each month in Room 124.   • Our Next Turn @ Rt. 1 DRC – Saturday, October 25, 11:45 am -2:00 pm. Glen Mar provides lunch on the 4th Saturday of every month. If you’d like to contribute to the potluck menu, help serve on site, or even view future SignUps, please visit our webpage. Sign up to be on the mailing lists for future sign ups by emailing us.
  • Brew & Belong! – Sunday, October 26, 12:15 pm. Interested in learning about what it means to be a member of Glen Mar church? Join us for coffee, cookies, and fellowship with other regular attendees interested in membership! Visit our website for more info!
YOUTH INFO/EVENTS:
  • Youth Orchestra! – All 6th-12th graders welcome! We will perform on a Sunday morning quarterly, and rehearse once all together the Saturday before. The next scheduled Sunday morning date is November 23. To join the Youth Orchestra and/or perform on November 23, sign up. Questions? Contact Gen Sogn.
  • Youth Group – TONIGHT! 5:30-7:30 pm. All 6th-12th grade youth get ready to escape!
  • Middle School Retreat – All youth and adults going on the retreat should meet in the upper parking lot this Friday, October 17, at 6:00 pm. Please bring all luggage & bedding and eat dinner before you arrive. We will return to Glen Mar next Sunday afternoon about 1:45 pm.
  • Next Week – High School only! A cool project just for our 9th-12th grade youth from 5:30-7:00 pm.
