By Bruce Leuthold
The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. reminded us that “Everybody can be great because everybody can serve.” On Monday, January 18, 2027, our church and community will once again come together for the MLK Jr. Day of Service — a day when over a thousand volunteers of every age work side by side to meet the needs of our neighbors while growing together as disciples of Jesus Christ. To make this day possible, we are inviting members of our congregation to serve in one of two important leadership roles:
Planning Team Members
Help shape this community-wide event by serving on the Planning Team. The team meets once or twice each month for approximately six months to develop projects, coordinate volunteers, and create a welcoming experience for everyone.
Room Leaders
Lead one service activity on the day of the event by welcoming volunteers, encouraging participants, and helping your project run smoothly. Room leaders play an important role in creating an environment where people can serve, connect, and grow spiritually.
Whether you have participated for years or this would be your first time, there is a place for you. We welcome people with every level of experience and every kind of talent.
A Special Invitation to Young Adults (Ages 18–35)
If you are a college student, young professional, young parent, or simply looking for a meaningful way to make a difference, we especially encourage you to join us. This is an opportunity to build friendships across generations, develop leadership skills, live out your faith through service, and help shape one of our church’s largest community outreach events. Your ideas, creativity, energy, and leadership are needed.
Together, we can continue building a church where people of every age, nation, race, and background are welcomed; where faith is lived through action; and where every act of service reflects the love, healing, and hope of Jesus Christ.
If you would like to serve on the Planning Team, become a room leader, or recommend someone who would be a great addition, please contact the Day of Service Team.
Come help us praise God, grow as disciples, and serve the world as we honor Dr. King’s legacy through faith in action. We would love to serve alongside you.
