Climb Together

Pastor's Ponderings
covid, fall kickoff, Family, masks, worship

Dear Glen Mar,

I have been to several indoor rock-climbing venues.  I would not consider myself a rock-climbing expert, but I have put on a harness and climbed many rock walls.  One of the things that I have noticed in my effort to get to the top is that the route to the top is not linear. There are times when we must move to the left, right, or even take steps that seemingly go backwards. Going backwards to go forward seems counterintuitive but it’s a part of the journey upward. The most important thing in rock-climbing (on rock walls at least) is to continue to look up to the top. It seems that when we take our eyes off the top, the objective, and/or goal, we lose our footing. If we continue to climb and get to the top, the view is beautiful.

Over this time of pandemic, we have been on a journey. Our journey is much like climbing a rock wall.  We have had to make many adjustments in our pathway. We have had to move left, right, and there have been times that we have gone backwards.  Let us keep our eyes towards the top, the end of this pandemic. Let us keep looking up knowing that in this climb, we are not alone; God is with us.

Due to current Covid-19 conditions, beginning on August 14th, everyone will need to wear masks while indoors at Glen Mar Church.  If you do not have a mask, we are happy to provide you with one.  We will continue to monitor the situation and make updates as conditions change.  Please remember to stay at home if you are not feeling well, or if you have had close contact with someone who has a known or suspected case of COVID.

As we look forward, we are making plans for the Fall.  Fall Kickoff is scheduled for September 12th.  Worship services will be interactive and family friendly.  The Fall Kickoff Lunch will begin at 12 pm.  The talented and beloved chef, George Dohner, will be providing his culinary skills for this event. (We will have a sign-up for that soon.) Ministries, small groups, and bible studies will resume.  Our contemporary worship service will move from Saturdays to Sundays at 11 am, starting on Fall Kickoff Sunday.  There will not be a contemporary service on Saturdays after September 5th.  Therefore, there will be two services on Sunday mornings, 9:30 am and 11 am.  The 9:30 am service will continue to be livestreamed.  Stay tuned for more details!

Let us continue to climb together, keeping our eyes to the hills from where comes our help—our God of grace.  Let’s continue to praise God, grow as disciples, and serve the world!

See you in Church,
Pastor Melaina
