Glen Mar and Grassroots Crisis Intervention Center make a great partnership. Grassroots is not only a shelter for the homeless in Howard County, but it is the 24/7 single point access for behavioral health, crisis and homeless services for individuals and families. Its services include:

  • 24-hour Crisis Intervention Hotlines; Maryland’s Helpline 211
  • National Suicide Prevention Lifeline
  • Free Short-term walk-in Counseling
  • Mobile Crisis Teams (MCT)
  • Substance Use Disorder Screening
  • Crisis Stabilization Program for Opioid & Stimulant Use
  • Suicide Prevention, outreach, and education
  • Rental Assistance Program

Over the years Glen Mar has supported Grassroots in so many ways. One of the areas was the fundraising provided by Soup’r Sundae/Silent Auction and Glen Mar Golf Classic. Unfortunately, the pandemic and its repercussions caused us to stop both of these activities.

Soup’r Sundae was cancelled by Grassroots because of the pandemic, so the Silent Auction that was part of that event followed. In considering the Glen Mar Golf Classic, the golf course increased its cost substantially and stopped allowing for outside catering. Who would come to our Golf Classic if George and Sally Dohner didn’t provide their special lunch?  In addition, most of the money raised during the Golf Classic came from Glen Mar donations. It turns out that those same donors have continued their contributions to Grassroots throughout the pandemic without the Golf Classic tag.

Although the Soup’r Sundae Silent Action and Glen Mar Golf Classic are no longer a part of our yearly activities as a church, Glen Mar continues to partner with Grassroots in support of the Day Resource Center, Cold Weather Shelter, Wish Upon a Star, monthly meals for the shelter, and other fundraising opportunities that become available.  The need is always there for this worthy organization, so we hope you continue to support them.

For more information on their great work, or to make a donation, please visit the Grassroots’ website.
