Adrienne Taylor and Don Wecker receive 2022 Award.

Our annual Glen Mar Habitat Crew picnic on September 18th was a hoot this year. We enjoyed a lovely time eating and talking and RELAXING together. We love to work together, but once a year we love to just take it easy together. This year, a few folks from Habitat Of the Chesapeake joined our picnic so they could interview crew members. They recorded our acceptance for the Outstanding Faith Partner Of the Year award that would be given at their banquet this October.

That was one of many highlights for our crew this year.  We worked on an Insulated Concrete Form (ICF) house that was donated to Habitat, which was a very interesting project.  I’m told the owner of the company who donated the house was quite impressed with our crew, and he’s worked with many around the country. We worked on some new construction of Habitat homes, which was fun. We usually work on rehabbing old homes. We enjoyed several rehab projects on homes this year in several locations in Baltimore.

During the pandemic we partnered with Family Survivor Network (FSN) to rehab their “Family House” which is an old row home providing space for grief support to people who have lost a loved one to violence, as well as community activism in Sandtown.  FSN organized summer camp for neighborhood kids this summer.  We were honored to partner with FSN.

Habitat work days are now a full 10 person crew.  We’ll finish 2022 working the 3rd Saturdays of November & December.  In 2023 we’ll move back to working the 2nd Saturday of the month.

Come out and work with us!  We welcome those who are skilled at building, as well as those who are eager to learn.  If swinging a hammer isn’t your thing, we also encourage volunteering at the Restores (there are 6 in the area).  Sales at the Restores support home construction for low income working families- donate & shop at the Restore knowing you are making a difference.

See a few familiar faces in this “Hopes for Habitat – Celebrating 40 Years!” video.
