Pastor’s Ponderings – A Summertime Dance

Pastor's Ponderings

Dear Glen Mar friends,

Our daughter Lydia has discovered the joys of swing dancing…and she’s quite good at it. She has only been to a couple dances in the area, and has already made many friends. I think she likes the joy of movement, and movement together, that dancing brings—and a great band playing along with it…there is such joy in a roomful of people, dancing together!

There’s a reason that life has been compared to a dance—the ebbs and flows of different seasons, and the way we are called to life in community. Church, when it’s being the church, is like swing dancing…the joy of using gifts together, flowing in harmony, working together to the same beat, making something better together than we could on our own.

As you look ahead in this summer season, don’t forget to let your soul dance a little. Invite God to join you—or perhaps more accurately, join the Divine, in the dance of life and love and liberating joy. After all, even our Triune God is a community within God’s own self—Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

What brings your heart joy? How is God calling you to be a part of the dance, in the name of Jesus, the “Lord of the Dance?” This summer, I hope you will join us in worship as a priority! I hope you will deepen your prayer life, and take time to show and share the love of Jesus…

We are all needed in the dance of life and discipleship! In the words of singer Lee Ann Womack,

I hope you still feel small when you stand beside the ocean
Whenever one door closes I hope one more opens
Promise me that you’ll give faith a fighting chance
And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance
I hope you DANCE!

Come hear about Shiphrah and Puah, some midwives who joined in God’s dance, this Sunday!

And…join us on Friday night for our concert (that has been moved indoors so folks can stay nice and cool).

See you in church,

Pastor Mandy

PS We got many “Estimate of Giving” cards… including some additional “Coffee for Capital” folks too! It’s not too late to let us know what God may be calling you to give!  Visit the 2024 Stewardship Campaign blog.
