Pastor’s Ponderings – Don’t Quit!

Pastor's Ponderings

Dear Glen Mar friends,

Did you know that studies have shown that there is a day where, if you have started something new, you are most in danger of quitting? Motivation is a finite (but renewable) resource, as it turns out. Studies have shown that Day 19 is the day when you are most likely to quit that new thing, that new habit, that resolution. So in late January, how are you doing with your commitments? I’m here to tell you that we have a God who never “quits” on us… and it’s never too late to come back to church and to God. Join us this Sunday when we will talk about the gift of sabbath rest and how sometimes a rest is just the thing we need to be able to do the things God is calling us to do.

I also wanted to remind you of some upcoming Memorial Services, starting with Libby Boswell’s service on Saturday January 27. We also want to remember Victoria Wilkinson’s service on Saturday, February 3 and also, Shirley Burbank’s service on Saturday, February 10. All will be at 11:00 am at Glen Mar.

Finally I wanted to share with you the sudden passing of Joan Baugher, our beloved neighbor and friend, whose generosity helped us build the facility known as Glen Mar church. Family will receive friends tomorrow (Friday) from 3-5 and 7-9 pm at Bethel Baptist Church, 4261 Bethel Overlook, Ellicott City and her service will be Saturday at 10 am at Bethel Baptist Church.

May the witness of the lives of these saints inspire us to live more faithfully, to run the race set before us and not “quit.” Galatians 6:9 says “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time, we will reap a harvest if we don’t give up.”

See you in Church,

Pastor Mandy
