Pastor’s Ponderings – Looking Ahead to Fall

Pastor's Ponderings
adam hamilton, Starting Point, the call

Dear Glen Mar friends,

I know it’s the “dog days of summer” but I wanted to share about some upcoming ways to grow as a disciple of Jesus, learn more about your faith, and also make amazing friends this fall. On Sunday, September 11, we’re going to have a church-wide kickoff celebration for all our ministries, including a focus on small group study opportunities for fall. For adults, we will have several options for small group study, and will be offering the following 3 “new” study opportunities, in addition to what other groups may already be planning for fall study:

“Starting Point” – A gathering where your questions about God turn into a conversation about faith. In a “Starting Point” group, you can discuss your doubts and explore the trickiest topics of faith free from pressure and judgement. Ideal for people who are a. New to a relationship with Jesus and looking to build a solid foundation for their faith or b. Returning to a church background and have been away for a while or c. Curious about God, Jesus, the Bible or Christianity but do not identify as a Christian.

The Call: The Life and Message of the Apostle Paul (by Adam Hamilton) – Follow the journeys of Paul, beginning with his dramatic conversion, as he spread the Gospel through modern-day Greece and Turkey. Travel to the early church sites and explore Paul’s conversations with the Romans, Corinthians, Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, and Thessalonians. In this six-week study, you are invited to experience faith through Christ’s greatest teacher and missionary. This would be great for anyone looking for small group fellowship, including people new to Glen Mar or those in need of a small group. Come learn more about Paul and his message for our faith.

Disciple Bible Study 1 and 3 – Disciple studies are an opportunity to study the Bible in an in-depth way that many find life-changing. Disciple 1 covers most of the whole Bible and Disciple 3 focuses on The Prophets and Paul.

You’ll hear more about these and other discipleship opportunities as we move toward September 11, but I wanted to “plant the seed” now. Membership in small groups for study, prayer and growth is a way to “tend the soil” of your spiritual life and to grow in Christ. Questions? Please reach out!

Also, a reminder that next Friday, August 12 at 7:00 pm, we will have the next installment of our Summer Concert Series with Ayreheart.

I hope you’ll join us for worship as we begin our August Family Worship series called “I Am…” You will be in for a blessing!

See you in church,

Pastor Mandy Sayers

PS We continue to pray for the Sellers family, as we prepare for Beth Sellers’ memorial service tomorrow (Saturday, August 6) at 10 am at the church. Join us as we celebrate Beth’s life and show love to her family.
