Pastor’s Ponderings – Who Are You Becoming?

Pastor’s Ponderings

Greetings Glen Mar,

You know, there’s something about Peter’s first epistle. Of course, the letter is believed to have come from Peter, the disciple of Christ and apostle. Peter knew firsthand what it meant to follow Jesus with vigor, to fall short of faithfulness, and to ultimately be forgiven and restored by grace.

Peter was writing to a church much like you and me. They were trying to live faithful lives in a challenging culture. In the letter, he calls his readers “exiles” because they needed to remember how their true citizenship was found elsewhere. Peter reminds them of who they were in Christ. In doing so, he pointed them to their living hope and told them that the trials they faced would not be wasted but would form them into who they were to become.

We’ll start there this Sunday by looking at 1 Peter 1:1–9. I encourage you to read the whole letter of 1 Peter over these next six weeks as your homework. I know so many of you enjoyed the Lectio365 Lenten series, and we all did that together, so just keep the community-wide discipleship going.

As you read, don’t rush. Go slow and pray as you go. Pay attention to what stands out and keep this question close: Who am I becoming?

We’ll explore that together in the weeks ahead.

Hope to see you Sunday!
