NEXT SERMON SERIES: Join us next Sunday as we begin our August Family worship series, “Drawn In: Living the Creative Life in God.” We will explore ways our Creator God creates masterpieces in our lives and learn the ways we are called to live “creatively” too – “dreaming” God’s dreams, waiting for the Holy Spirit to move, taking “holy boldness” risks, listening for the Spirit’s response.

MINISTRY SPOTLIGHTS:

The Quey Percussion Duo will dazzle audiences with its blend of various types of music. This free concert will be held the Spirit Center on Friday, August 16 at 7:00 p.m. Visit our table in the Gathering Place today.

Backpacks for Baltimore – (now through August 11) In partnership with Ames United Methodist Church in Baltimore, Glen Mar will be collecting food items as well as backpacks and school supplies for distribution to the Ames Community on August 17. Please visit our table in the Gathering Place for information on items being collected and how you can help!

9th Annual Jewels for Hope – Now is the time to consider donating slightly-worn jewelry & scarves. A drop-off container will be in the Gathering Place from September 8 – October 20. This sale event is to benefit Hope Works of Howard County, the county’s Rape Crisis and Domestic Violence Center. Mark your calendars today! The event is on Saturday, November 2, 2024 from 8:30am – 2:00pm.

Next Baptism/New Member Sunday is August 18 – and happens on the 3rd Sunday of most months. If you are interested in having a baptism, please fill out a form at glenmarumc.org/baptism/. If you would like to become a member, please sign up for our next Members Lunch on Sunday, August 4 at 12:30 pm or call or email the Pastor’s Assistant, Mary Ellen.

UPCOMING EVENTS:

HOLA Toastmasters of Ellicott City – Next Meeting Tuesday, August 6 at 7:30pm: We meet twice a month on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday evenings at 7:30 pm. We have hybrid meetings both online and in person on first Tuesdays at Glen Mar and on ZOOM only on 3rd Tuesdays. For more info, email Rajan Gupta.

Habitat For Humanity – Next work date is August 10. Do you enjoy doing handy work? Or do you wish you knew how to do handy tasks around your home? The Glen Mar Habitat Crew welcomes you to join us, either way. You must be 16 or older to work on a Habitat site. We work the second Saturday of every month. If construction isn’t your gift, you can still support this wonderful mission by volunteering in the Restores. Contact Adrienne Taylor to learn more or to sign up.

Introduction to Modern Square Dance – Saturday, August 10 from 7:00 to 9:00 pm. Join us at Glen Mar and learn how to square dance. For FREE! No experience necessary – if you can walk, you can dance. Couples & Singles welcome. Visit our blog or come see us in the Gathering Place for more info.

Mission Trip Interest Meeting – Sunday, August 18 at 12:15pm for adults interested in one of two Glen Mar sponsored mission trips. We will explore a fall week-long trip to North Carolina to continue our partnership with Carolina Rebuilding Ministry. We will also explore sending a team to Guatemala for a week-long experience working with Steps of Hope Education Center. Bring your calendars and your questions. Grassroots Meals Ministry: Make a Meal – Tuesday, August 27. Love to cook? Looking for a way to serve those in need in Howard County? YOUTH INFO/EVENTS:

High School Dinner & a Movie – Tuesday, August 6, 6:30 -10 pm – Rising 9th grade and older are invited to the home of Ethan & Charlotte (email D.C. Veale for address) for dinner and the movie “Are You There God? It’s Me Margaret”. Bring $5 for dinner.

Flip Flop Art Night – Wednesday, August 7, 6:30 – 8 pm – Middle & high school youth are invited to a night of Karaoke! Meet in the Youth Lounge. Bring a friend!

Pool Party – Saturday, August 10, 4 – 6:30 pm. Watery fun for middle & high school youth at the home of Van Beall (email D.C. Veale for address). Hot dogs and hamburgers will be served. Please bring a dessert (last name A-M) or side dish (last name N-Z) to share.

Confirmation Information Meeting: Sunday, August 25, 10:45 am in Youth Lounge – All unconfirmed rising 8th grade and older youth and their parents are invited to attend an information session for the 2024-25 confirmation class.

Youth Group Kick-off: Sunday, August 25, 5:00 – 7:30 pm. Bring the whole family for dinner, fun, and information about the Youth Group plans for the year. Register (coming soon) so we know how many to expect. Please bring a side dish or dessert to share and RSVP Today .

MUSIC CORNER:

One More 2024 Summer Concert Series Blast! – Quey Percussion Duo will dazzle by blending traditions of contemporary, cross-cultural, classical, and popular music at a concert on Friday, August 16 at 7:00 pm in the Spirit Center. Quey members Dr. Gene Koshinski and Dr. Tim Broscious will elevate the acts of striking, shaking, and scraping into a blast of energy.

“No Strings” Choir – Love to sing? Interested in trying out Choir but not ready to commit long term? How about once!?
Already in the choir and still wanna sing? Join our “No Strings” Choir. We will sing on August 25 with rehearsals
