Ames Memorial UMC Receives Property Worth $2.2 Million for Resurrection Sandtown Project

Since 2016 Ames Memorial UMC, Glen Mar’s partner congregation in the Sandtown community of West Baltimore, has been acquiring property near Ames Church in order to develop a community center and bring new services and amenities to Sandtown.
Shelter and Food Provided to Neighbors in Need
The Grassroots Crisis Intervention Center’s Cold Weather Shelter (CWS) provided housing and three meals a day to local residents in need over the cold winter months. This program is administered in partnership with faith communities and the Howard County Government. For the 19th consecutive year, Glen Mar participated in this partnership. Sunday morning youth programs continue to meet every Sunday morning at 9:30. The high school youth have been digging into the Sermon on the Mount, while the 6th and 7th graders studied the life of Jesus and the start of the church, and the Confirmation Class explored what discipleship looks like.

In December and January, a small group of middle and high school youth met to plan and lead worship for Youth Sunday, which was on February 6. Youth Sunday this year was part of the “God, Gifts, You” sermon series on Spiritual Gifts.
