Dear Glen Mar friends,
Many thanks to those who have sent pictures of your “Lenten Tables” for our season of “Meeting Jesus at the Table!” Are you making plans to join us for worship this Sunday? How about our 8:30 am Communion Opportunity in the Chapel before coming to regular worship? Have you set a table for your Lenten prayer and for your meals this Lent, remembering that Jesus is present? I found myself at a Dunkin Donuts to meet a parishioner for coffee and I thought “Jesus is here.” I looked around at the other folks in the place—the kid playing on his game console, the workers coming on shift, the family grabbing refreshment after school—and “saw” them through the eyes of Christ. All because of a Table and a Lenten mindset. Try it!
Some in our church are enjoying our Lenten book study of “Fear of the Other” by Bishop Will Willimon. Others are following my husband’s daily Psalm meditations (posted on our church’s Facebook page). Still others are reading “Meeting Jesus at the Table” by Cynthia M. Campbell or reading through the Gospel of John. What is feeding YOUR Spirit in this season of wilderness journeying?
I am fasting from Facebook, and using the time I would have spent “doomscrolling” in prayer and journaling…It’s been really needed, as we gear up for times of transition in our family and life. As we stand with and pray for our nation and particularly those most vulnerable among us, know that God is with you…and that our faith was made for “wilderness” times…our God sets a table in the midst of all of it—a place where all are welcome and loved.
See you in Church,
Mandy
