Pastor’s Ponderings – Chances For “Yes”

Pastor's Ponderings
advent, Christmas, grief, healing, Hope, mt hebron annual canned food drive

Dear Glen Mar friends,

Last week we learned what God could do because “Mary said yes.” In this season of Advent, I hope you’ll “say yes” in many ways to great events that are coming up in the life of our church.

Bring your canned food and your clean coats to church this Sunday. The food will support the Mt. Hebron HS food drive and the coats will go to Ames UMC in Baltimore.

Our Service of Light and Hope is at 3 pm on Saturday, Dec. 18 in our chapel. This is a lovely, intimate service of prayer and candles for people who could use a little extra light and hope this season. Please come and invite friends who might be blessed by this.

We are asking for your “best Christmas ever” story, to be shared as part of worship on Dec. 26. Send a few sentences or a paragraph or a poem about a meaningful Christmas in your life to wo*****@gl********.org by Dec. 17.

Join us for Christmas Eve services. Family services are at 2:30 and 4:00 pm, Traditional services are at 7:00 and 9:00 pm and our Candlelight Communion service is at 11:00 pm. The 4:00 pm and 7:00 pm services will be live-streamed.

Thank you for your prayers and care for each other, especially in this season. I wanted to share with you that our beloved Jane Reeder passed away this week suddenly following a fall. You may remember that her husband Jake went to be with the Lord last summer. Services will be family only. Please hold the Reeder family in prayer.

Because this has been such a hard season of loss for so many, we will be offering a Journey through Grief Support Group for 6 weeks at church, starting Saturday, Jan. 15, from 9:30-11:00 am. This is an opportunity for sharing, caring, hope and healing and I hope you will consider joining us if grief has been a part of your journey this year. To let us know you are coming, email Pastor Mandy or ca****@gl********.org.

What can we learn about Christmas from folks like Caesar and Herod? How can our wilderness journeys with God be “Journeys to Joy?” Join us this Sunday in worship to find out!

See you in church,

Pastor Mandy
