CURRENT SERMON SERIES:
A Faith That Works – Sundays, September 1 – 29. Join us for an insightful journey through the Book of James in our worship series: “A Faith that Works!” James emphasizes practical Christian living, focusing on themes like faith, wisdom, patience, and the relationship between faith and works. In this series, we will discover practical wisdom for everyday life and learn how to apply timeless truths to help us live out our faith today.
Fall Kick-Off – Sunday morning programs for children and youth start up again this Sunday, September 8, at 9:30 am. Sprouts, for pre-school through kindergarten, meets upstairs in the ELC wing. Pathfinders, for 1st – 5 grade, meets in the Kid’s Wing. Fuse for 6th and 7th grade, Confirmation Class for 8th grade (and older), and Rooted for high school youth all gather in the Youth Lounge before dividing into their classes.
MINISTRY SPOTLIGHTS:
9th Annual Jewels for Hope – Now is the time to consider donating slightly-worn jewelry & scarves. A drop-off container will be in the Gathering Place from September 8 – October 20. This sale event is to benefit Hope Works of Howard County, the county’s Rape Crisis and Domestic Violence Center. Mark your calendars today! The event is on Saturday, November 2, 2024 from 8:30am – 2:00pm.
Christmas Cantata – Calling all singers and instrumentalists – plan now to be part of Love! A Gospel Christmas Celebration by Joel Raney, Sunday, December 22 at both the 9:30 and 11:00 am services. Rehearsals begin on Thursday, September 26. Contact Sophie Hong for more information.

Journey to Bethlehem – Mark your calendars for our annual Christmas gift to the community December 6, 7, and 8 from 5 to 8 pm. This year we’ll “walk” on Friday and Saturday and have a “drive night” on Sunday. Do you have a costume to return? No shame involved! See Pastor Mandy for questions.

North Carolina Mission Trip – Glen Mar is sending a bed-building construction team to Windsor, NC, to help improve the housing facility of Carolina Rebuilding Ministry. October 14 – 19, $250/person. Register today. Contact D.C. Veale for more information.
Outback Is Back – Enjoy dinners from Outback Steakhouse on Wednesday, October 9, 5:30 to 7:15 pm, at Glen Mar. Meals costing $25 each must be purchased by October 1. Dine-in and carry-out meals are available. The menu will include both sirloin steak and chicken, macaroni and cheese, Caesar salad, bread and butter. Purchase dinners in the Gathering Place on September 22 and 29 from Glen Mar’s Angels for a Cure or online. Proceeds benefit the American Cancer Society.

Family Matters Pot Luck Dinner – Saturday, September 7 from 6:00 – 7:30 pm. Do you have kids in preschool through middle school? We are a small group that typically meets every 1st Saturday of the month. This is a great opportunity to make friends with other families with kids at Glen Mar! Bring the whole family, an entrée or side dish and join us in the Glen Mar Youth Lounge.
Sunday Morning Sunday School Kick-Off – Sunday morning programs for 1st – 12th grade return THIS Sunday, September 8, during the 9:30 service. Join us for an exciting time of learning and spiritual growth. If you’re new to the program, or have new contact information, or you’re starting at a new school, or you’ve just never gotten around to it, register today – Nursery to 5th grade and 6th – 12th grade.
Experience Handbells – Sunday, September 8, 10:45 AM. This is a chance for 6th grade and older youth to see what handbell ringing is all about. Try your hand at bell ringing, and even play a song.
Habitat For Humanity – Next work date is September 14. Do you enjoy doing handy work? Or do you wish you knew how to do handy tasks around your home? The Glen Mar Habitat Crew welcomes you to join us, either way. You must be 16 or older to work on a Habitat site. We work the second Saturday of every month. If construction isn’t your gift, you can still support this wonderful mission by volunteering in the Restores. Contact Adrienne Taylor to learn more or to sign up.
Social Justice Group – Tuesday, September 10 at 7:00 pm in room 159. Passionate about social justice and want to make a difference in the world? Join us as we explore ways to support migrants arriving in D.C.
Dancing Needles – Thursday, September 12 at 1:00 pm. Do you enjoy knitting and crocheting or would you like to learn? We need you in our group. Prayer shawls are given as a reminder that others care and are praying for them; baby blankets are made for our newborns and scarves for our armed forces. We meet the second Thursday of the month to knit, crochet, and share together. Donations of yarn are always welcome.
Next Baptism/New Member Sunday is September 15 – and happens on the 3rd Sunday of most months. If you are interested in having a baptism, please fill out a Baptism Form. If you would like to become a member, please sign up for our next Members Lunch or contact Pastor’s Assistant.
Lunch Bunch – Tuesday, September 17, at 11:30 am. Lunch Bunch is a group of “seasoned citizens” (55 and up) who meet in the lower lobby for fellowship, fun, and, of course, lunch.
Alphabet Soup – Tuesday, September 17, at 7:00 pm. Looking for a safe space where you can be yourself? Alphabet Soup is a reconciling community, celebrating diversity and inclusiveness, and welcoming and affirming ALL people. The group meets on the third Tuesday of each month at 7 PM in Room 124. Guatemala Mission Trip – Glen Mar is sending our first team of volunteers to work with Steps of Hope Education Center in Santa Maria de Jesus. Combining working with children and facilities improvements. March 4 – 11, 2025, cost $1,500-$1,800/person. Contact D.C. Veale for more information. The registration deadline is Oct. 20.
YOUTH INFO/EVENTS:

Youth Group: Life Sized Video Games – Sunday, September 8, 5:30 – 7:30 PM. All 6th – 12th grade youth are invited to a fun evening of IRL games based on video games. Meet in Youth Lounge and bring $5 for dinner.
Middle School Retreat – October 11-13. 6th – 8th grade youth are invited to spend a weekend at Camp Manidokan having fun together while exploring what it looks like to be a peacemaker. The cost is $210 per person. Register by October 3.
