Join us for an insightful journey through the Book of James in our worship series: “A Faith that Works!” James emphasizes practical Christian living, focusing on themes like faith, wisdom, patience, and the relationship between faith and works. In this series, we will discover practical wisdom for everyday life and learn how to apply timeless truths to help us live out our faith today.
MINISTRY SPOTLIGHTS:
Glen Mar’s preschool and elementary Sunday school classes are growing! If you enjoy working with kids, we need you. Join the rotating teaching team or volunteer as a classroom assistant. To learn more, talk to Julie.
Sunday Morning Sunday School Kick-Off – Sunday morning programs for 1st – 12th grade return next Sunday, September 8, during the 9:30 service. Join us for an exciting time of learning and spiritual growth. If you’re new to the program, or have new contact information, or you’re starting at a new school, or you’ve just never gotten around to it, register today – Nursery to 5th grade and 6th – 12th grade.
Experience Handbells – Sunday, September 8, 10:45 AM. This is a chance for 6th grade and older youth to see what handbell ringing is all about. Try your hand at bell ringing, and even play a song.

Early Learning Center Toddler Playground Fundraiser – Now through September. Purchase a Papa Johns – Official Fundraising Card for $15. The card is good for buy one get one free (pick up only) for ONE YEAR! Purchase on Sunday in the Gathering Place, or contact Alie.
9th Annual Jewels for Hope – Now is the time to consider donating slightly-worn jewelry & scarves. A drop-off container will be in the Gathering Place from September 8 – October 20. This sale event is to benefit Hope Works of Howard County, the county’s Rape Crisis and Domestic Violence Center. Mark your calendars today! The event is on Saturday, November 2, 2024 from 8:30am – 2:00pm.

HOLA Toastmasters of Ellicott City – Next Meeting Tuesday, September 3 at 7:30pm. We meet on the 1st Tuesday evenings at 7:30 pm. For more information, email Rajan.
Family Matters Pot Luck Dinner – Saturday, September 7 from 6:00 – 7:30 pm. Do you have kids in preschool through middle school? We are a small group that typically meets every 1st Saturday of the month. This is a great opportunity to make friends with other families with kids at Glen Mar! Bring the whole family, an entrée or side dish and join us in the Glen Mar Youth Lounge.
Habitat For Humanity – Next work date is September 14. Do you enjoy doing handy work? Or do you wish you knew how to do handy tasks around your home? The Glen Mar Habitat Crew welcomes you to join us, either way. You must be 16 or older to work on a Habitat site. We work the second Saturday of every month. If construction isn’t your gift, you can still support this wonderful mission by volunteering in the Restores. Contact Adrienne Taylor to learn more or to sign up.
Dancing Needles – September 12 at 1:00 pm. Do you enjoy knitting and crocheting or would you like to learn? We need you in our group. Prayer shawls are given as a reminder that others care and are praying for them; baby blankets are made for our newborns and scarves for our armed forces. We meet the second Thursday of the month to knit, crochet, and share together. Donations of yarn are always welcome.
Social Justice Group – Tuesday, Sep 12 at 7:00 pm in room 159. Passionate about social justice and want to make a difference in the world? Join us as we explore ways to support migrants arriving in D.C.
Next Baptism/New Member Sunday is September 15 – and happens on the 3rd Sunday of most months. If you are interested in having a baptism, please fill out a Baptism Form. If you would like to become a member, please sign up for our next Members Lunch or contact Pastor’s Assistant.
Guatemala Mission Trip – Glen Mar is sending our first team of volunteers to work with Steps of Hope Education Center in Santa Maria de Jesus. Combining working with children and facilities improvements. March 4 – 11, 2025, cost $1,500-$1,800/person. Contact D.C. Veale for more information. Registration deadline will be Oct. 20.
YOUTH INFO/EVENTS:
Confirmation – All 8th grade and older youth who have not yet bee confirmed are urged to participate in this year’s confirmation class. Contact D.C. Veale for more information, or register online.
Youth Group: Life Sized Video Games – Sunday, September 8, 5:30 – 7:30 PM. All 6th – 12th grade youth are invited to a fun evening of IRL games based on video games. Meet in Youth Lounge and bring $5 for dinner.
Middle School Retreat – October 11-13. 6th – 8th grade youth are invited to spend a weekend at Camp Manidokan having fun together while exploring what it looks like to be a peacemaker. The cost is $210 per person. Register by October 3.
