Dear Glen Mar friends,
This Sunday marks the start of Advent, a season of preparation for Christmas, and a reminder that Jesus’ birth changed the world, forever. During this season, we’ll have many opportunities for worship and for getting ready for Christmas. We get our houses ready for Christmas by putting up decorations; we get our bank accounts ready for Christmas through shopping. (Use Smile Amazon, and designate our church as your charity and GMUMC will get a percentage of what you spend!) This Advent, let’s get our hearts ready for the coming of Christ. We have many opportunities for that to happen here at Glen Mar.
- Sunday Worship Advent Sermon Series. “Light of the World: A Beginner’s Guide to Advent” in worship, prayer and song, come get ready for Christmas by seeing the birth of Jesus through the eyes of folks we don’t normally spotlight during Advent. This Sunday, we’ll study Zechariah and Elizabeth, and the role of memory in the season of Advent.
- A Service of Hope and Healing. This service is on Saturday 12/18 at 3 pm (early this year). It is a service featuring candles and music and prayer designed for folks who are having a hard time finding their joy in the season of “Joy to the World.” It is lovely and intimate—bring a friend who might have a hard time with the holidays this year!
- Christmas Eve: Family Service at 2:30 and 4 pm, Traditional service at 7 and 9 pm, and service with communion at 11 pm. (One Family Service and One Traditional Service will be live streamed). Happy Advent and Merry Christmas to all!
- Wish Upon A Star—we are shopping for families in need again this year! Don’t miss the chance to be a blessing to others!
- Journey to Bethlehem is almost here! Don’t forget to register to come, and to share with friends.
- Thanksgiving Saturday—help our neighbors at the Grassroots Day Resource Center in Jessup (11/27/21 from 11:45-2 pm—an easy and meaningful way to serve!).
