MINISTRY SPOTLIGHTS:

Stephen Ministry – A Stephen Minister is a lay person who has engaged in 50 hours of training in Christian care giving. We are here for those who are going through a challenging season of life. For more information about Stephen Ministry, speak to a Pastor or email st*************@********mc.org.

Trunk or Treat Fall Festival – Saturday, October 19, 10 am-12 pm. Join us for a fun-filled, family-friendly morning of games, activities, and some cool trunks! Volunteers are needed to decorate their vehicle and hand out treats, help with games and activities, or donate candy. Journey to Bethlehem – Sign up NOW to volunteer to participate in our annual Christmas gift to the community December 6, 7, and 8 from 5 to 8 pm. This year we’ll “walk” on Friday and Saturday and have a “drive night” on Sunday. Sign up at: https://glenmarumc.org/jtb-team/.

ACT NOW:

Charge Conference on ZOOM – Saturday, Oct. 19, 10:00 to 11:30 am. Join this yearly meeting with our District Superintendent Representative. All church members will be eligible to vote. At the charge conference, we will worship, share joys from the past year, share reports from different administrative teams, and approve pastoral compensation for 2025. Guatemala Mission Trip – Registration Deadline is October 20. Glen Mar is sending our first team of volunteers to work with Steps of Hope Education Center in Santa Maria de Jesus – combination of working with children and facilities improvements. Jewels for Hope – Donate your gently worn jewelry and scarves by the deadline (October 22). Drop off containers are in the Glen Mar Gathering Place, at Hope Works, at Miller’s Grant, and the Columbia Yoga Center. Questions? ho*******@********mc.org.

North Carolina Mission Trip – Glen Mar is sending a bed-building construction team to Windsor, NC, to help improve the housing facility of Carolina Rebuilding Ministry, October 14-19. Cost $250. Register now at glenmarumc.org/events/nc-bed-building-trip/.

UPCOMING EVENTS:

Social Justice Group – Tuesday, October 8 at 7:00 pm in room 159. Passionate about social justice and want to make a difference in the world? Join us!

Dancing Needles – Thursday, October 10 at 1:00 pm. Do you enjoy knitting and crocheting or would you like to learn? We’d love for you to join us our group. We gather on the 2nd Thursdays each month in Room 144 to knit, crochet, and share together. We create prayer shawls, baby blankets for our newborns, and scarves for our armed forces. Donations of yarn are always welcome.

Lunch Bunch – Tuesday, October 15 at 11:30 am. Lunch Bunch is a group of “seasoned citizens” (55 and up) who meet in the lower lobby for fellowship, fun and, of course, lunch.

Alphabet Soup – Tuesday, October 15 at 7:00 pm. Looking for a safe space where you can be yourself? Alphabet Soup is a reconciling community, celebrating diversity and inclusiveness, and welcoming and affirming ALL people. The group meets on the third Tuesday of each month at 7 PM in Room 124.

Grassroots Meals Ministry – Tuesday, October 22. Love to cook? Looking for a way to serve those in need in Howard County? Our Next Turn @ Rt. 1 DRC – Saturday, October 26, 2024 from 11:45 am – 2:00 pm. One of 50 churches supporting the Grassroots Rt. 1 Day Resource Center (DRC), Glen Mar provides lunch on the 4th Saturday of every month. YOUTH INFO/EVENTS:

Youth Group – All 6th-12th grade youth are invited to join us
TONIGHT from 5:30-7pm in Youth Lounge for fun, dinner, and a look at one of the coolest stories in the Bible. Come see what it means to be Loyal Like Ruth.

Middle School Retreat – All youth and adults going on the Middle School Retreat to Manidokan should meet in the upper parking lot next Friday, Oct. 11, at 6pm, packed, ready to go, and having eaten dinner. We will arrive back at Glen Mar on Sunday, Oct. 13, at 2pm.

MUSIC CORNER:

Christmas Cantata – Calling all singers and instrumentalists – plan now to be part of Love! A Gospel Christmas Celebration by Joel Raney, Sunday, December 22 at both the 9:30 and 11:00 am services. Rehearsals begin on Thursday, September 26. Contact Sophie Hong for more information.
