Confirmation Class 30 Hour Famine

Each year, a confirmation class (8th grade & up) starts in September and continues to Pentecost. During these 9 months, intensive disciple formation is happening. The “Thirty-Hour Famine” is one of many efforts that our confirmands devote their time and effort to learn about insecurities of food, water and shelter around the world. Last February, our confirmands raised over $4,000 for World Vision from dona-tions, selling baked goods and nail crosses they made while they were fasting. They played various games and discussed questions like ‘what difference will our faith make?’ They, of course, really enjoyed a meal together at the end of the program.

So what is left for this year’s confirmands? The Confirmation Re-treat will be May 5-7 at West River United Methodist Center. The Confirmation Service will be on Sunday, June 4 at 4:00pm.

Fun activities

Having fun was the ultimate value I pursued in my youth. Having fun can be translated in different terms.

  • “I’m making friends with whom I can talk about anything.”
  • “I’m excited because I’m using my body and mind to achieve something and help somebody.”
  • “I’m relieved because I belong here.”

So, we went out to have fun together, enjoying Laser Tag, Snow Tubing, an Escape Room and Hershey Park.
