This Just In

There’s always something happening at Glen Mar.

SPOTLIGHTS:
  • Trunk or Treat Festival on October 28th from 10am-12pm. This family friendly event will have decorated cars, games, crafts and a moon bounce! Sign up is on Realm. We also need volunteers to decorate their vehicle, help with games and activities and to donate candy. Check out the table in the Gathering Place for more information and to sign up to help!
  • Jewels for Hope – November 4 from 8:30 – 2:00 pm. It is not unusual for HopeWorks to receive a client whose partner shows up at her house unannounced, destroys her property, commits acts of violence to her, threatens her children, all requiring her to ultimately miss going to work. HopeWorks not only provides the immediate need emergency shelters, legal advocacy and hospital accompaniment programs, it also provides short-term financial assistance for the families when needed and long-term wellness programs. Hope Works helped 3,400 people last year with the services they provide. Hopeworks answered over 1600 hotline calls for women with similar stories. Jewels for Hope is a fundraiser where 100% of the proceeds go to HopeWorks’ mission. You can help by attending the sale on November 4 from 8:30-2:00, by spreading the word to friends and neighbors, and by making cash donations to HopeWorks. For more information, or if you want to volunteer for the team, see us in the Gathering Place today.
  • Journey to Bethlehem – November 30, December 1, 2, & 3. Mark your calendar for the event of the season! A FREE outdoor Christmas experience for the whole family where you can meet Roman soldiers, shepherds (and their sheep) and angels as you journey through the Christmas story. Help us prepare to tell the “Greatest Story Ever Told”. Return costumes from last year. Sign up to play a part, from behind the scenes to in the scenes. Visit our table in the Gathering Place for more information.
Meaningful Connection, Sense of Purpose

Are you between the ages of 18 and 35 and hungry for excitement, meaningful connections, and a sense of purpose? Glen Mar is hosting a community bridging event called the MLK Jr. Day of Service. It is where faith meets fun and is a celebration of community, faith, and togetherness. If you are interested or have any questions, please send an email to Bruce Leuthold.

The Art of Listening

Last week, our Stephen Minister trainees learned about “The Art of Listening” —an essential part of Stephen Ministry. We use a variety of active listening skills to help hurting people share what they’re going through and move toward healing. Could you use someone to be a listener for you? For information about connecting with Stephen Ministry, speak to a Pastor or email the Stephen Ministry Team.

The group is also making baby blankets for our newborns and scarves for our armed forces. We usually meet the second Thursday of every month at 1:00 pm in Room 144 to knit, crochet, and share together. If you wish you can knit or crochet at home and we can arrange to have your finished items picked up or dropped off at church. Donations of yarn are always welcome.

If construction isn’t your gift, you can still support this wonderful mission by volunteering in the Restores. Contact Adrienne Taylor to learn more or to sign up.
